Abstract: A Type 3.5 pressure cylinder (200) for compressed gas storage is disclosed. The pressure cylinder (200) comprises a first end boss (202) and a second end boss (203), each providing a fluid port and anchorage for a welded metallic skeleton (201). The metallic skeleton (201) comprises longitudinal struts (204) extending between the end bosses (202, 203) and circumferential hoops (205) welded at junction nodes (206) to form a continuous metallic load path. A polymer liner (208) is rotationally moulded over the metallic skeleton (201), polymer extending through apertures in the struts (204) and hoops (205) to mechanically interlock the liner (208) with the metallic skeleton (201). A carbon fibre composite layer (209) is filament wound over the polymer liner (208) to provide structural reinforcement.
