Abstract: ABSTRACT Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, primarily initiated by dental plaque. Persistent gingival inflammation and increased oxidative stress play a crucial role in periodontal tissue destruction and disease progression. While mechanical plaque control remains the cornerstone of periodontal therapy, adjunctive chemical agents are often required to enhance plaque control and —modulate-inflammatory responses. Ghlor-hexidine is the gold-standard chemical plaque------control agent however, its long-term use is limited by adverse effects such as tooth staining, taste alteration, and mucosal irritation. Given the chronic nature of periodontal disease, there is a need for effective and biocompatible agent suitable for prolonged use. Urolithin A and pterostilbene are naturally derived compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can decrease microbial load while also reduces oxidative stress and modulate host inflammatory responses while counteracting the long-term adverse effects of chlorhexidine mouthwash.
