Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION This project presents the development of an intelligent real-time malware detection framework designed to enhance endpoint security against threats introduced through external storage devices such as USB drives. At its core, the system employs a client-server architecture where the client continuously monitors file activities-including creation, modification, and deletion-upon USB device insertion. Each detected file is processed using a secure SHA-256 hashing algorithm to generate a unique digital fingerprint, which is then logged locally and transmitted to a centralized server for analysis. The server-side architecture incorporates a multi-layered detection pipeline, where the generated hash is first compared against a locally maintained database of known malicious signatures to enable instant threat identification with minimal latency. In cases where the hash is not found, the system performs advanced analysis by integrating with external threat intelligence services such as the VirusTotal API through background processing. The framework includes an automated alerting and logging mechanism that triggers real-time notifications upon detection of malicious files, ensuring immediate response capabilities. Additionally, the system supports continuous monitoring, efficient data handling through socket-based communication, and scalable design for future enhancements. By combining cryptographic hashing, real-time monitoring, layered threat intelligence, and centralized analysis, the proposed solution provides a robust, scalable, and cost-effective approach for proactive protection against USB-based cyber threats, aligning with modern cybersecurity requirements for securing endpoint environments.
