MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641091563 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on July 28, 2026, for Utensil For Electro-Gustatory Stimulation And Adaptive Taste Modulation.
Inventors include Shivani Gupta; Tushar Sharma; and Menaka Pushpa A.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a utensil (100) may include a stimulation electrode unit (102) to deliver an electrical stimulus to a tongue of a user, a first sensor unit (104) to detect mouth environment data, a second sensor unit (106) to detect brain activity data, and a control unit (202) operatively coupled to the stimulation electrode unit (102) and the sensor units. The control unit (202) receives the mouth environment data and the brain activity data, fuses the received data, and determines an electrical stimulation pattern based on the fused data. The control unit (202) actuates the stimulation electrode unit (102) to deliver the electrical stimulus to the tongue of the user in accordance with the determined stimulation pattern. The utensil enables modulation of taste perception during food consumption without altering the chemical composition of food.
