MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611103784 A) filed by Mohammad Hannan; Saptarshi; and Preetish Kota on August 28, 2026, for Varactor-Loaded Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface With Dual-Mode Biasing Control Method For Wide Phase Tunability.

Inventors include Mohammad Hannan; Saptarshi Ghosh; and Preetish Kota.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to wireless communication and provides a reconfigurable intelligent surface system for sub-6 GHz systems. A unit cell (100) comprises an outer ring (108) and a slotted inner patch (106) formed on a grounded dielectric substrate (112), with only two varactor diodes (110) joining the upper and lower portions of the inner patch to the ring. When both diodes are biased at a common bias voltage, the cell delivers a reflection phase coverage of about 268° Fig. 3 (200, 202) at 5 GHz; when the diodes are biased independently, the coverage extends to about 341° Fig.4 (300, 302), with reflection loss remaining below 0.7 dB Fig. 3 (304) in either case. The phase response stays stable for incidence angles up to 60° Fig. 5 (400, 402). A 10×10 array (008) of such cells, configured through a four-pin FPGA- based controller (002), electronically tilts the reflected beam across ±60° (600,602) while maintaining a peak gain of 9.5–15 dBi.
