Abstract: An invention of the Veggie Box is disclosed, designed to prolong the shelf life of perishable goods produced in India, such as vegetables, fruits, and flowers. India, being a leading producer of these crops, unfortunately attains the 2nd rank in the world for wastage of these perishable goods, incurring a monetary loss of over 1.52 lakh crore per annum. The innovation, comprising an airtight container fitted with an automatic electric timer, a polypropylene suction pump and an Ultra Violet (UV) lamp, has demonstrated significant enhancement in the shelf life of perishable products under experimental conditions, with different categories of vegetables, herbs, and flowers exhibiting substantially improved freshness retention compared to conventional room-temperature storage. The main purpose of this invention is to reduce national loss, conserve resources and cater to the population with scarce food sources who live a life of starvation, by providing an energy-efficient and accessible preservation solution.
