Abstract: Abstract VEHICULAR MOBILITY ON AERIALLY SUSPENDED RAILS The system for vehicular mobility on aerially suspended rails has at least one carrier rope tautly stretched between two distant terminations and optionally supported from below at one or more additional intermediate locations. Hangers are suspended from the carrier ropes at fixed intervals. At their bottom, the hangers support two rails, one each on left and right of the centreline maintaining a constant gauge between. Hangers of nearly similar lengths along with provisions for knuckle joints between successive rigid rail sections forming the left and right rails, resulting in the rails and carrier ropes generally following the same catenary profile in the vertical plane. Compatibly designed vehicles ply over the rail tracks. Each vehicle has multiple individually suspended driven wheels that ride over the left and right rails. Beyond the carrier rope end supports, the rails continue over the ground to allow seamless transition between aerial and surface mobility. Different embodiments of the invention can carry passengers and goods. In one embodiment of the invention, all carrier ropes are held together between and above the two rails and the hangers are inverted T shaped, the compatibly designed vehicles are inverted U shaped and they straddle without touching the carrier ropes, ground supports, and hangers anywhere during vehicular movement.
