Abstract: Disclosed are a video transmission method and a device, relating to the technical field of multimedia. A source device can directly query the capability of a sink device for processing a compressed video, and the source device transmits a first VBP, a compression parameter message and the compressed video to the sink device only if the sink device has the capability for decompressing the compressed video, a compressed video mode field comprised in the first VBP being a first value, the first value being used for indicating that a compressed video mode is a compressed video, and the compression parameter message being used for indicating compression parameter information of the compressed video. Thus, the present application avoids the problem of invalid communication processes between devices and occupied transmission resource bandwidth between devices caused by sink devices lacking the capability for decompressing compressed videos. Additionally, the present application can transmit compressed videos, so as to solve the problem of degraded transmission efficiency caused by using DP protocols or HDMI protocols to transmit the compressed videos, thus helping to improve the robustness of data transmission and the efficiency in transmitting compressed data.
