MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611063180 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Mandi on May 19, 2026, for Vortex-Lens Based Apparatus And Method For Passive Generation Of Structured Optical Fields And Holographic Outputs.

Inventors include Pushpendra Singh; and Anirban Bandyopadhyay.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for passively generating structured optical fields and holographic outputs. The apparatus comprises a first vortex lens (100); a second vortex lens (200), and an inter-lens spacing (300) provided therebetween. The second vortex lens (200) is disposed downstream of the first vortex lens (100) along an optical path (400). The first vortex lens (100) has a first cavity (102) containing a plurality of optically transmissive layers of different refractive indices (in a range from 1.41 to 1.551), and the second vortex lens (200) has a second cavity (202) containing similar optically transmissive layers arranged in reverse order relative to that of the first vortex lens (100). The first and second vortex lenses (100, 200) are configured for axial displacement and relative angular orientation with respect to one another along the optical path (400). Fig. 1
