Abstract: A wearable apparatus for assisting a visually impaired user, comprising a sunglasses frame 101 configured to be worn on a head of the user, an obstacle sensing module 102 comprising at least one ranging sensor configured to detect obstacles within a predetermined distance range and generate obstacle data, a processing unit 103 disposed within the sunglasses frame 101 to process the obstacle data to determine at least an obstacle distance and an obstacle direction relative to the user, an audio guidance module 104 configured to provide real-time audio alerts indicating at least the obstacle distance and the obstacle direction, a navigation module 105 comprising a GPS receiver configured to provide outdoor route guidance, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) 106 configured to determine head orientation and heading, and a power module 107 comprising a rechargeable battery configured to extend runtime of the apparatus.
