MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641093634 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on July 31, 2026, for Wearable Device For Monitoring Mental Health Of A Wearer And The Method Thereof.
Inventors include D. Kavitha; and Anirud Paul.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: A wearable device (100) for monitoring mental health of a wearer includes one or more sensors (102) configured to sense physiological and behavioral data pertaining to heart rate variability (HRV), galvanic skin response (GSR), respiration, stress, activity, and sleep parameters. The wearable device (100) includes a processor (104) comprising a gated recurrent unit (GRU) (104A), a personalization unit (104B), and an explainability unit (104C). The processor (104) preprocesses the sensed data by timestamping, normalization, synchronization, and segmentation into temporal sequences. The GRU (104A) generates a mood classification output and a mental health index (MHI) score. The personalization unit (104B) establishes user-specific baseline using anomaly-resistant calibration. The explainability unit (104C) generates interpretable sub-scores based on deviations from the baseline and combines sub-scores with the MHI score to generate an explainable personalized mental health assessment for real-time monitoring. An interface (106) displays MHI score, sub-scores, alerts, and historical mental health data.
