MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541055836 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on June 10, 2025, for Wearable Device For Speech Synthesis From Sub-Vocal Articulation Signals.

Inventors include Bolishetty, Ram Sathwik; Shankar, Balakrishnan; and Menon, Sreedevi K..

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a wearable speech synthesis device (100) and a method (300). The wearable speech synthesis device (100) includes a mask body (102), a piezoelectric film element (106) within the cavity that generates a charge signal from airflow and sub-vocal articulation, a sensor array (104) generating a sensor signal, a charge amplifier (108) having a field-effect-transistor input stage (204) and a virtual ground bias (202) that converts the charge signal into a voltage signal within an input range of the analog-to-digital converter (110), an analog-to-digital converter (110) digitizing the voltage signal, a microcontroller (112) framing a data packet, a wireless communication unit (114) exchanging the data packet and a speech signal with a remote processing unit (120), and a loudspeaker (118) rendering the speech signal. Unlike conventional assistive devices depending on residual vocal vibration or invasive contact, the disclosed device enables natural speech communication.
