Abstract: Abstract Xylitol Production from Calotropis procera Using Papiliotrema laurentii Isolate Y3 The present invention relates to a biotechnological process for producing xylitol from lignocellulosic biomass. The process comprises subjecting stem biomass of Calotropis procera to dilute acid hydrolysis to obtain a xylose-containing hydrolysate, followed by neutralization and detoxification to reduce inhibitory compounds formed during hydrolysis. The detoxified hydrolysate is fermented using a yeast capable of converting xylose into xylitol, wherein the yeast comprises Papiliotrema laurentii isolate Y3. The process integrates hydrolysis, detoxification, and fermentation steps and is adaptable to laboratory, pilot, and industrial scales. The invention provides an effective method for converting non-food plant biomass into xylitol suitable for use in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and related industrial applications.
