India, July 31 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

Reflecting a positive response from the Central Government to accelerate the overall development of remote and tribal areas like Bastar, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has assured serious consideration of the Chhattisgarh Government's proposal. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai met Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting positively discussed strengthening road connectivity in the Bastar region.

At the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Sai proposed amending the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV) to consider a 10-kilometer radius as a cluster, similar to the one implemented in Arunachal Pradesh. The current 500-meter limit leaves many small and scattered villages in Bastar without road connectivity. Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan took the proposal positively, stating that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is working with utmost sensitivity for the development of remote and tribal areas and will take necessary action on the state's suggestions. He emphasized that improved road connectivity is the most effective means of ensuring access to education, health, employment, and government schemes.

State Home Minister Vijay Sharma also provided information on the progress of ongoing rural development projects and schemes in the state. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the rural development work underway in Chhattisgarh, calling the construction of crematoriums and toilets under the Vikasit Bharat-Ji Ram Ji Yojana effective. He also praised the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, stating that the construction of approximately 1,500 houses per day is a significant achievement for the state.

Union Minister Shri Chouhan expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the Central and State governments will further accelerate development work across Chhattisgarh, including Bastar, thereby strengthening socio-economic transformation in the region. Senior officials from the Central and State governments were present at the meeting.
