NHs projects in 3,318 km length have been awarded during the last five years for improving connectivity in border areas, out of which 1,301 km has been constructed. State / UT - wise details of such projects are at Annexure-II.
State / UT - wise details of expenditure incurred towards development and maintenance of NHs, including NHs providing connectivity to aspirational districts and border areas, during each of the last five years are at Annexure-III.
Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process. Works on all NHs, including development / capacity augmentation works on NHs providing connectivity to remote and strategically important areas, are accordingly taken up based on traffic density, connectivity requirement, condition of the road and synergy with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP). At present, 1,191 NHs projects in about 25,917 km length costing Rs.7.15 Lakh Crore are under construction in the country. This also includes development works in 3,100 km in border areas. Additionally, the Government has also taken up development of network of ropeways for improvement of first and last mile connectivity, accessibility, public convenience in remote areas.
