India, Oct. 27 -- The Government of India has issued a release:
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has launched a comprehensive initiative for scientific and environmentally sound disposal of electronic waste (e-waste) generated at its various offices and laboratories. This initiative is being undertaken by DRDO under Special Drive 5.0 (Special Drive for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 5.0).
Under the guidance of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman, DRDO, the campaign aims to not only ensure scientific management and disposal of e-waste but also to bring down the pendency of VIP references, appeals and complaints to the minimum level.
During the previous campaigns SCDPM 1.0 to 4.0, DRDO has reviewed approximately 1 lakh physical files, of which over 60 thousand files were weeded out . By reusing shredded paper under a barter system, the organization has obtained stationery items worth approximately Rs.4 lakh. Additionally, the organization has earned approximately Rs.7.5 crore from the disposal of over 100 vehicles and other mechanical waste. This effort reflects DRDO's commitment to resource conservation and environmental protection.
Under SCDPM 5.0, all DRDO laboratories have been directed to regularly adopt procedures for collection, recycling, and scientific disposal of e-waste. Furthermore, coordinated efforts are being made to ensure systematic disposal of old records and prompt resolution of pending cases. This initiative is another important step towards DRDO's cleanliness, transparency, and sustainability, further strengthening the organization's green and responsible administrative system.
