India, Sept. 26 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Shri Dmitry Patrushev at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi. The Russian delegation, including the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, was also present. The meeting included detailed discussions on agriculture , science , technology , innovation , educational, and cultural exchange.

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while providing details about the meeting, said that he had a very cordial and productive meeting with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and his entire team. We had extensive discussions on mutual cooperation in agriculture and food security , balancing bilateral trade, and further strengthening technological partnership. Discussions were held regarding the entry of Indian potatoes and grains into Russia.

Mr. Chauhan stated that we also discussed our fisheries sector, which has significant export potential . Discussions also focused on the export of poultry products and access to the Russian market. He added, "I am confident that issues related to phytosanitary standards and non-tariff barriers will be resolved soon." He added, "We also discussed research and innovation. Discussions are ongoing on broad collaboration between ICAR and its counterparts to facilitate the exchange of science and technology. These topics were discussed with a very positive perspective."

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Chauhan stated that discussions were held regarding Indian students studying in Russia and Russian students studying in Indian agricultural institutions, and that agreements were reached on this. The Union Minister stated that Russia has also offered to allow four Indian students to study free of charge. He stated that Russian students will also benefit from fellowships in India. This will promote not only educational but also cultural exchange between the two countries. Discussions also included expanding cooperation on seed and agricultural technology-based solutions.

Finally, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "I am confident that with Russia's support and cooperation, the pending trade issues will definitely be resolved, benefiting our farmers, consumers, and citizens of both countries." The Union Minister said that the friendship between Russia and India is essential for peace and stability. He said that India has the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," that the whole world is our family. With this spirit, we will work together with Russia in the fields of trade , innovation , food security, and education, while protecting our national interests.
