A major beginning has been made in Baghpat towards connecting the rural youth of the country with modern technology and making them self-reliant. Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Education Shri Jayant Chaudhary inaugurated the Chaudhary Ajit Singh Centre of Excellence ( CoE) for Design and Fashion Technology in Baghpat. This centre has been established by the Apparel , Made-ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council ( AMHSSC ) . On this occasion, many senior officials including Amit Meena , Deputy Secretary of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship , Padmashree Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman of AMHSSC and Ashish Srivastava, CEO were present.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Jayant Chaudhary , Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, stated that this center is a major step toward integrating skill development with new technologies. It will provide rural youth with new opportunities for employment , entrepreneurship, and innovation. He noted that the apparel sector is one of the largest employers in the country, employing approximately 8 million people annually. This is a major opportunity for Western Uttar Pradesh, and centers like this will open new avenues for youth.
Padmashree Dr. Sakthivel , Chairman , AMHSSC, said that this center will prepare youth for the future of the fashion and apparel industry. It will develop a skilled workforce through AI-based training and modern technologies.
He stated that this approximately 9,000 square foot center has been built with an investment of approximately Rs. 5 crore. It features three smart classrooms , 43 modern sewing machines ( 8 of which are AI-based) , CAD-CAM systems , 3D design software, and other modern equipment. The center also features digital workstations , a computerized embroidery unit, and simulation-based training , providing an industry-like environment. This center will be a modern hub for skill development , innovation, and industry collaboration in the apparel and fashion technology sectors .
Ashish Srivastava, CEO, AMHSSC, said, " Women contribute significantly to India's apparel industry, and this Center of Excellence is designed to empower them. By providing AI-based training and modern infrastructure in a safe and inclusive environment, we aim to provide rural women not only with skills but also with confidence and economic independence. This initiative will enable them to become employed, entrepreneurs, and contribute significantly to the progress of their families and the country."
The center has launched eight courses , including sewing machine operator , fashion designing, and AI-based programs. The center's signature feature is its AI-powered sewing machines , which automatically adjust stitch settings based on the type and thickness of the fabric. This speeds up work , reduces errors, and minimizes fabric waste. The center also features a CAD-CAM- based cutting lab , where precision and high-quality work will be achieved through digital patterns and automatic cutting. This initiative is expected to benefit millions of youth, especially in rural areas. It will provide them with the necessary skills for employment and enable them to increase their participation in the apparel sector. Additionally, the center will promote rural entrepreneurship and help the MSME sector adopt new technologies.
